At Diagnostic Healthcare, we’re committed to providing a level of care that not only meets but exceeds expectations. Recently, one of our patients, Georgia, shared her experience with us, highlighting why she chose private care and how our team made a difference in her healthcare journey.
Georgia came to us for a Transvaginal (internal) ultrasound after concerns for her reproductive health. After being told at a young age, she had a horn-shaped uterus (also known as a Bicornuate Uterus), a condition that could potentially complicate pregnancy, she was left with questions about the severity and how that would impact her when trying to conceive.
What is a Bicornuate Uterus?
A Bicornuate Uterus is a congenital uterine abnormality that causes the uterus to be in the shape of a ‘horn’ or ‘heart’, due to a deep indentation at the top. The mullerian ducts, which normally fuse together to form the uterus, don’t fuse completely during the embryonic development, causing the upper portion to dip inwards, while the lower portion remains normal. Although many women with this condition don’t experience difficulties conceiving, it does increase the chance of miscarriage during pregnancy, as well as increasing the potential of a premature birth.
When speaking to Georgia, she said:
“I had been to the GP multiple times about my condition, but it was always a case of being told to come back when I was actively trying for a baby. Although I am looking to start a family within the next year or two, I felt brushed aside by healthcare providers and I was left with lingering doubts and fears. I wanted to be prepared for what was to come but I often felt that discussions were rushed or just left me with more questions.
After giving it some thought and discussing it with my partner, I decided that I needed a service that would give me time, personalised care and clarity. That’s when I began searching for a local provider who would be able to get the answers I needed. This is when I discovered Diagnostic Healthcare.”
Once researching, Georgia got in touch and booked an appointment the same week at our Altrincham Clinic. Georgia went on to say:
“From the moment I arrived at the clinic, I felt really welcome. After a short wait, I was taken into the ultrasound room by Saadiqa, one of the Sonographers. We discussed my concerns about my uterus and she took the time to explain each step of the ultrasound procedure. It didn’t feel like it was just about the scan, she made me feel comfortable and made sure I understood what was happening.
Saadiqa confirmed the diagnosis and explained it in detail, addressing all my questions and worries in a way no one had before. She was really knowledgeable and compassionate which made me feel completely at ease. It turned out that my condition wasn’t as bad as I had previously thought – it also uncovered that I had cysts on my ovaries, which had explained some other symptoms that I had been experiencing. For the first time, I left an appointment feeling empowered and reassured.”
Georgia received a full report of the findings from her Ultrasound scan which she will be able to use for future appointments back at her GP if necessary.
At Diagnostic Healthcare, we realise that one of the most important aspects of our service is the time and attention we can give to each patient. For this patient, having the opportunity to ask questions, receive detailed answers and feel supported, made a significant difference to her experience.
